What is the origin of natural gas?

Odourless and colourless, natural gas is an energy source that is available straight from nature.

Chiefly comprising methane, it is the result of the decomposition of organic matter trapped in the terrestrial or marine subsoil. It is extracted by drilling, and then purified to make it usable for transport and consumption.

Natural gas is one of the so-called fossil energy resources. Its reserves have taken millions of years to accumulate. And as a result, they are not inexhaustible. Which is why it is extremely important today for us to develop renewable gases.
