What is a gas cut-off station?

A gas cut-off station is a valve that can be used to stop gas flowing through a pipeline.

Located at regular intervals along a gas pipeline, these stations are particularly useful in two situations:

  • For maintenance operations: closing two cut-off valves and decompressing a section between those two valves means you can isolate the section and carry out work in complete safety.

  • In the event of an accidental leak: if a leak is detected on the transport grid, cutting off the flow in the affected section will help limit the amount of gas released into the atmosphere until such time as the pipeline can be repaired.
