What is the Net-Zero Industry Act?

The Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA) is a European regulation adopted on 29 June 2024, aimed at stepping up the production of clean technologies within the European Union. Its main aim is to simplify and speed up investment in those technologies that are essential to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

So the NZIA hopes to speed up the deployment of net-zero technologies such as hydrogen, biomethane, or solutions for carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).

In this last area, the NZIA sets an ambitious target: reaching an annual injection capacity of 50 million tonnes of CO₂ in the EU by 2030. This measure is backed up by a simplified regulatory framework to encourage the development of such infrastructures.

For Teréga, this new European framework represents a major opportunity to accelerate its CCUS projects, based on simplified procedures and clear targets on a European scale.
