What is the BarMar project?

BarMar is a 400 km subsea hydrogen transport pipeline project that will link Barcelona to the Fos-sur-Mer industrial platform near Marseille.

As a segment of the European H2med project, the future hydrogen transmission network from the Iberian Peninsula to Germany, it will address several challenges:

  • Decarbonisation of industrial activity

  • Energy sovereignty for Europe

  • European cooperation between the project's partner States

Carried out by the BarMar company—comprising Enagas, GRTgaz, and Teréga, the French and Spanish transmission system operators—this project has been labelled a Project of Common Interest (PCI) by the European Union.

In order to continue the development of this project, BarMar is subject to a prior public consultation under the aegis of the National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP), which will take place in France from May 6 to July 12, 2026.
